To Watch or Not to Watch

After reading "Digital TV Goes Dark For Some Rural Viewers" my initial response was anger and contempt for those capitalist pigs that want to garner as much profit as possible and leave the little guy in the dark (both literally and figuratively). How could the "powers that be" deny citizens the quality programming that keeps us all going? I mean, really, who can live without "American Idol?" Or, "The Bachelor?"

And then, as always, my good ol' common sense jumped in.

These people may be the victims of something mindblowing - or, better yet, mind opening. Just imagine how much extra time these people will have to do things like read, or (gasp) talk to each other? Perhaps they may decide to take a walk or try a new hobby. The opportunities are endless. No longer will these rural viewers' minds be corrupted by television. No longer will they be told what to care about, how to dress, or who matters. They will actually have to make a conscience effort to seek information and maybe, just maybe this extra effort will prompt them to go further and they will analyze and reflect upon what they find. This could be the dawn of a new age in rural America.

Yes activities such as taking a walk or trying something new may seem like a good idea, but frankly, the american people as a whole are dependent on the television. Especially the reality tv shows! You can't even lie and say that they are addicting. If shows that have been around for what seems like forever such as "The Bachelor" or "American Idol" suddenly disappeared the world may go into a depression!! Just kidding but it probably would effect some people. Tv plays such an important role in society that the people wouldn't stand for reality shows to suddenly be gone. Viewers would put up a fight!

People are some, most times to dependent on entertainment from the internet, or from television, that's why people their are so little creative thoughts in this society. This is also another reason students are lazy/uneducated as well.

I feel sympathy for the elderly people who sat doen to watch their favorite show and are upset to find that their show is not available anymore. I mean how are the elderly supposed to know about this. All they know is that their tv is not working and they can't watch their show. I do not have sympathy for those who weigh three hundred pounds and are watching the food channel, just the elderly.

How sad is that. American people can be such couch potatoes. Thats why the United States is the #1 nation with obese people. I cant even remember the last time I saw television. Im too busy with other sorts of activities; like stretching my designs, hanging with friends, basically I have a life.
This problem increases with new technology. Especially with the most wanting DVR, TIVO! I know so many people that would die without this particular device. How so sad and depressing. It just reminds me of my grandmother with her telephone. Just imagining her face stuck within the tv screen, watching her spanish, mellow-dramatic soap operas. Without it, there would be no living.

Living without television is not the end of the world. People did it for thousands of years before us. But American's especially have become dependent on it and would do anything to get it. If people need to have more than one television in their house now, there is no way that they will survive without having it at all.

I think that a lot of people depend on internet and television way too much. To me it is a faster way for them to get to know specific news. Like an event on TV. Watch instead of waiting for the newspaper the next day. This is one of the reasons we have one of the most obese countries in the world. Is because we sit and eat and watch television all day.

It's incredible how America is so dependent on television. That is why most people in America are obese. People rather be inside their house watching TV instead of being outside playing basketball or any other sport
