The more I travel, the more I appreciate this planet. I have had the opportunity to visit many climates, terrains, and locales and I have found beauty in every single one. One of my favorite places is Clovelly, England, a tiny village built into the side of a cliff. You enter the village from the top and meander down the cobblestone streets, stopping in shops and cafes along the way. The walk down is steep and rather dangerous but it is a quaint place where people are willing to lend a hand if necessary. As you walk down the village a view of the ocean is always in the distance, teasing, tempting you to the bottom so you can take a dip in the cool water. The village ends at the harbor where small boats are arriving from an early morning fishing expedition. While standing in the water you can look up to the village or to the left and right and marvel at the English cliff faces, jutting out into the sea. When you have had your fill of sight seeing you can wander over to the village restaurant where you are served a meal of the same fish that was caught only hours ago.
It is because of places like this and my own home, that I am passionate about saving the Earth. We live on a beautiful planet, why not keep it that way? I am not against advancements or building - to a degree. But, I am against people who squander the resources of the planet and choose to not give anything back. Whether you believe in the effects of climate change or not, there is no harm is taking the necessary steps to improve your surroundings.
There are many small actions that can lead to big changes. For example, many of you probably already recycle paper, plastic, and aluminum. But, did you know that you can add items like food boxes, toilet paper rolls, magazines, and envelopes to your recycling bin? Those of you that drive can reduce gas consumption by running all of your errands during a single outing or by car pooling to school or other functions. Also, by cutting down your showers only two minutes, you can save gallons of water. Not to mention using green bags when shopping, bringing your lunch in washable containers (instead of plastic baggies), washing your car over the lawn (so run-off water gets used again), or planting a small tree in your yard.
I have taken a great initiative to improve my attitude toward saving the environment, especially over the last 3-4 years. As you already know, I try to use as little paper as possible in my classroom. At home I recycle all that I can, have a small herb and veggie garden, use cloth (washable) napkins instead of paper, and never go to any store without my green bags. I drive a fuel efficient car, unplug electronics that are not in use, and wash my laundry in large loads to save water and energy. I know I could do a lot more, and I am trying, but, at least I have taken the initiative.
What do you do to help the Earth? Do you have any suggestions for ways that we all can make a big difference with a small change in our lifestyles?

I feel the same way I do my best to help out the Earth. My family and I recycle at home and we do as much as we can to save water and electricity. We use the eco friendly lights and also unplug everything that is not being use as you do too. I also make sure to turn off all the lights or electronics that aren’t being used to save up electricity. My mom loves plants and we have them all over the house as well as outside. When walk up to my house all you see are plants surrounding the path to my door. It’s beautiful as well as good for the earth. We only have one car and that helps a lot so we don’t pollute the air as much as if we had two cars. There are so many other things that we can be doing but this is our best. I will continue doing my best later on and do as much as I can to help the earth. Something that we should start doing more often is recycle paper. Many of us don’t do it at home as we should. At school I always try to throughout the paper in the recycling bin. Also, I try to do everything I can on the computer to save paper. Also we should try using permanent bottles of water instead of using plastic ones. Doing little things like this will add up and make a big change in our lifestyles. For example: we can keep our beautiful world that we have as it is and protecting it from getting worst as it is, and keeping us healthy. Also we should try using permanent bottles of water instead of using plastic ones.
I do show some type of initiative but I do not go above and beyond when it comes to saving our earth. At home I recycle, turn as many lights off as I can, and even turn the water off when I'm brushing my teeth. I know those aren't major step but any little thing I can do helps. This ignited a spark of curiosity and I found quite a few other precautions I could take to help save the environment. Light results in 1/5 of the electricity consumed by the American citizens each year and one way to reduce that is by using fluorescent light bulbs. They last longer and use 1/4 the amount of energy. Batteries contain mercury and cadmium which have been a major contribution to contamination in dump sites. by using rechargeable batteries reduce the deadly toxins that are released into the air. Those are just two simple ways in which we can help. Every little change improves the plant so we should all do what we can to save the earth!!
One way that I help the Earth is by taking short, but effective showers. I also turn off all lights, televisions, and everything else to conserve energy. Instead of driving to a friends house down the street, I take my bike or even walk. At home, I recycle whatever and whenever I can. Even though at my house the sprinklers are automatic, if rain is in the area or has already rained, we turn them off to prevent the use of unnecessary water.
One way that people can help save the Earth by doing something minimal is by picking up a few pieces of litter each day. Since there are always going to be people who don't care about Earth, others who do should help by taking a second out of their day to pick up a few pieces of trash, or educate others on the destruction of leaving their trash behind.
Well first let me say that I am very passionate about saving the planet, and I consider myself an environmentalist. I have also lived in many different climates and seen many extremely beautiful parts of the world, and that has really influenced my mindset towards the planet. The three years I lived in Belize were by far the most influential in my love for nature. That country is a poor, poor country- economically speaking- but it more than makes up for it with its natural riches. From rich expanses of virgin rainforest to the second largest barrier reef in the world, Belize taught me to not only appreciate nature, but also to respect it, and I love that country so much for that. It has shown me the marvels that this planet can produce, and for opening my eyes to said beauty I thank it. But more importantly, I realize just how special each animal species and each climate is and how important each is in the biosphere and to us,which many people fail to do.
Why do you even care about polar bears that you will never even see? So what if the Earth gets 1 degree hotter? What do I care? I hear those types of remarks very often, and everytime I do the little respect and hope that I have towards humanity dies a little and I get really angry. The reason I care about the Earth isn't only because loss of biodiversity and the change in climate WILL affect us, but also because I believe in responsibilty. This will sound corny, but "Those who are endowed with great power are also endowed with great responsibility", and we humans have the power to change the world in our hands- let's not abuse that power. I do believe in making small changes in our everyday life, such as recycling, shutting off the lights, etc., but let's face it: most people won't do that. That is why I believe in larger scale projects instead of more individual changes. Yes, I definetely agree that change starts at home, but sometimes it isn't enought. The world needs to understand that this world doesn't hold infinite resources and that sooner or later we will have to change our ways. Let's make it sooner. Wind powered turbines, undersea tide generators, solar panels, etc. are all viable solutions to our energy crisis, and they have no effect on our carbon footprint. Why not use them then? The following decade, or even less, will be a time in which we will have to look back and reflect on what we've done to this planet, but more importantly, it will be a time to change our ways. Let's hope we can do that before we reach a tipping point, because after that, there is no coming back.
If going green were an Olympic sport, I would have many gold metals. I always make sure to conserve energy by turning off faucets, recycling, and turning off lights to conserve energy. This is very important to keeping our Earth from becoming more wasted and polluted. I think that is a great idea that cars are becoming more eco-friendly. Some suggestions to preserve our environment would be car-pooling to save gas and pollution. This would keep the world less contaminated. I also think that requiring people to recycle would have a major impact on society. It would contribute to using fewer natural resources.
This year I took AP Environmental Science. This class has taught me a lot about the environment and all the simple everyday tasks we can all do to help save the planet. Lots of people say they don't care about the planet because it won't effect them, but who knows maybe one day it will and they will be the people to blame. It is as easy and printing front and back on a piece of paper inorder to save paper. Always try to reduce your comsumption, reuse your products, and recycle your garbage. Simple recycling water bottles will help out the earth, but the best thing to do is buy a reusable water bottle and fill it up rather then use disposable water bottles. There are many simple things everyone can do to do their part in helping the environment.
I do feel that we are harming our planet. Its sad to see some of the horrible enviormental effects we have on our natural surroundings. I love nature and the woods thats what i grew up on in Ohio and it truly made me appreciate nature more. I think one way we can lessen our effect on nature is to use less electricity water and recycling is key. Small things like this really help and also save money which is why i dont understand why people dont do this anyway. We live in an extremely wasteful society that if continueing along its path will see the true effects of neglecting this planet.
Going green is something that is advertised everywhere. In the supermarket and at clothing stores the slogan "Going Green" is huge. Just as all of these major manufacturers are incorporating the thought of saving the planet, I feel as if I need to start helping out. I am not very involved currently with "Going Green" but it is important to start soon. Every little step makes a big difference!
Usually I don't wash my clothes after 3 weeks saving water. Also, I turn off every light that is not being used throughout the house. I hate throwing out batteries because there is not a scientific way of getting rid of the fossil fuels or materials the batteries are made out of.
Suggestion to not the environment, by throwing paper on the floor to pollute environmental grounds; find the nearest trash can.
Well, I always unplug things that are not in use. My family and I only have fluorescent light bulbs in our house. And I believe that if we can become less dependent on oil and use other natural resources and the right natural resource for the area. Like, in Florida, we should use solar power, and places with luscious waterfalls should use hydroelectric.
Going green is the best anyone could do. My mom and whole family did it, at first it was hard to get used to but now it's a way of life. It's healthier for all of us as a family and it's more economical than using up all our earth's resources!

That is amazing all you do , its a lot more than I do which is really bad. the place you described in the beginning really seems beautiful and ive been to places I find so amazing . I definitely want to work to help keep all these beautiful things as beautiful as they are. Unplugging things in my room is something that would definitely make a difference , since I have to many things plugged in always . Washing the car on the lawn is a good idea too being that I have a big navigator. Me and nicole carpool all the time so that helps out alot . Im definitely going to open my mind and try to help the environment as much as I can.
I'm not green because I could definitely try harder. I do walk most places and I'm growing some peas. I turn the faucet off while I brush my teeth and while I'm lathering my hands when I wash them. I don't leave my charger plugged in and I recycle what I can. Unfortunately, the recycling people don't take cardboard so I don't recycle it. I would like to get one of the toilets that save water but that would be a renovation that would cost more money than my parents would be willing to put out. I try but I know I could try harder.
I definitely think that everyone should do as much as they can to help and protect the environment. My family and I do as much as we can to help save the environment. We changed most of our light bulbs to the compact fluorescent ones, we try to recycle as much as we can by placing recyclable items on the counter until time to place them in the bin for trash day, my mom buys eco friendly paper towels and toilet paper. We also try to use the least amount of water while washing dishes, taking a shower, and brushing our teeth, we try to keep as many lights off as we can, and we unplug any computer and cell phone chargers when they are not being used.
I have helped the environment in my own little way. At my church there was a entire section that literally used to be a dump. People used to just throw all of their garbage on this area and it just kept on compiling. Eventually my family and I decided to turn this piece of land into a butterfly garden. We started off by cleaning out the entire area and buying plants, mulch, etc. from the Home Depot. It took us about a half a year, but we finally transformed it into a beautiful butterfly garden. Now it is a colorful garden with butterflies flying everywhere, no longer a colorless area with people garbage thrown all over it.
At home we also try to use as little paper as possible, always have the green bags in the car in case of any last minute shopping, large load for the dishwasher and laundry are a big deal for us, and when we are out of the house we put the air conditioner in a temperature around 76-80 degrees so we save energy.
I've found other ways to help the "go green" cause like:
-wash the laundry with cold water instead of hot.
-buy a inexpensive reusable water bottle instead of buying disposable ones.
-turn off the lights and try to leave them off for as long as possible.
-pay as many bills as possible online.
This is an appealing topic because there are so many ways we can help the environment in which we live by simply "going green". I admire your support towards making our environment a better one. Honestly, the past couple of years I have been a bit ignorant about "going green". The little I've done includes recycling sometimes and being conservative with the water I use in the bathroom. I also try to save paper. I have gotten used to writing many things in one piece of paper, front and back, so that I don't end up using too much paper. I will think about going green" much more because our planet needs our help!
Well, I try to do things, small things, here and there; but I don't think that anything I do is enough to make a difference. Simple things, like turning the lights off when I leave a room, turning the water off when I brush my teeth. You know, the usual. Also, my family changed our water so that we have to turn the heat on and off. That saves energy. I just try to do little things that collectively, could be something nice and good for the world.
Actually I dont do much to help the environment.I take long showers and never recycle.I leave tv's and lights on in other rooms.I leave my chargers in the wall so they suck up all the juices when Im not using it.Im not going to be one of those people that pretends they are Captain Planet by doing all that random stuff,I'm just a regular everyday American.I even drive a Ford that poops out gas and emissions like theres no tommorow.Let me know when the rest of the world goes along with this going green thing and then maybe I'll start but hey does this make me less of a person or more of a realist.
I never realized how much little things you can do actually help the Earth. I think I do a fair amount that any person can do, like saving water, turning off the lights, recycling, and not littering.
One way that people can help save the Earth is by doing things like taking minimal but effective showers, the kids in the lunch room can pick up there trash instead of leaving it all in the court room. But since there are always going to be people who don't care about Earth, others who do should help by taking a second out of their day to pick up a few pieces of trash, or educate others on the destruction of leaving their trash behind.
Well, first of all let me say that I really admire you for taking the initiative to save the planet. Even though, these little actions may seem useless, they actually help the Earth in an enormous way. No matter how small your contribution to the Earth might be, it is better than not doing anything at all.
I think I would be a great example, to take into consideration. I might not be an environmentalist or anything like that, but I can assure you that I try my best to help the Earth. For exmaple, I always turn the lights off, when I leave a room. Also, I always unplug or disconnect all energy transmitting devices when they're not been used. Additionally, I try to use a bike as often as I can, instead of a car.
As you can see, these things may not seem like they're making a great difference, but if you put my actions together with yours, they will make a huge change on the Earth.
