Guilty Pleasures

As is often the case, I was inspired by NPR to address the idea of guilty pleasures. We all have them (even if we don't like to admit it). Some of us may even hide them. But, they are there, lurking in the recesses our lives, like a stalking cat, ready to pounce when we least expect it.

I have a few guilty pleasures. If truth be told, I don't feel terribly guilty about them, but they are still elements of my life that I don't voluntarily share on a normal basis. One of my most guilty of pleasures is to read what I like to call "supernatural candy." Before the Twilight series and True Blood, I was eating up supernatural mysteries, thrillers, and romances like there was no tomorrow. Still am. I love them. Some of my favorite supernatural writers are Charlaine Harris, Laurell K. Hamilton, Jeaniene Frost, and Kim Harrison. Granted, as I am reading most of these novels I am well aware that they are not the most well-written works of literature, but, I enjoy them anyway. They are entertaining and fun and imaginative and I predict that they will be a part of my home library until the end of my days.

My literary guilty pleasure does harm to no one and wastes nothing but my time. Sadly, my second guilty pleasure is not as harmless. I love sweets. Chocolate, in specific. Ice cream as well. And, to make matters worse, I am a pretty decent cook. So, to my utter dismay, most of the sweets that I make are good - really good - and I am forced to eat all of it. Of course I know that the sweets that I consume are not good for me, but I eat them anyway. Isn't that why they call it a guilty pleasure?

We all have that little secret about ourselves that remains hidden for years and years. I am content with my guilty pleasures, have even come to accept them as somewhat positive elements in my life. But, it took a little while before I was able to do so. I hope that all of you will soon be able to accept your own guilty pleasures and embrace them.

I never thought of myself having a "guilty pleasure", something I do but don’t want to admit but I do! Today in class, I had to think really hard about what my guilty pleasure was. I have the same pleasure that you have, eating sweets. I have a huge sweet tooth but I'm not afraid to admit it. I know it’s bad for me and I do try to limit myself but it’s so hard! The guilty pleasure I wrote in my journal today was dancing in my room alone. HA! Embarrassing...but I'm sure I'm not the only one! When you think about it, some guilty pleasures we have we don’t want to share but there are other people with similar ones. Knowing that, I took a chance and shared my own guilty pleasures on your blog.

I also had a tough time actually thinking about my guilty pleasure yesterday in class as I wrote my journal. It took me awhile but then I realized what it was. Its similar to yours of eating chocolates and sweet, but mine is the mouthwatering meals produced by fast food restaurants. I always find myself traveling to these places after school and yesterday I realized how often I do consume fast foods and it was very surprising. I no the consequences to your health, but I just seem to ignore that fact because I just enjoy the taste so much.

When I think of having a guilty pleasure for some reason food always comes to mind. But, I quickly came to realize that my guilty pleasure had absolutely nothing to do with food but rather with certain television shows. My guilty pleasure would have to be watching the Dr. Phil show .
Now I am fully aware that this just doesn't sound normal for a 16 year old girl to watch a show with a big bald guy telling people what they should do. But the Dr. Phil show just has me completely hooked. The show teaches lessons that will last a lifetime. While giving good advice Dr. Phil also helps people to get their life back in the right direction. From sending them to rehab to providing resources inside and outside the home he does it all.

When the class had to do the journal about our guilty pleasure it was a bit difficult. But I was able to find mine. My guilty pleasure is that i'm some what wealthy and there are many families and other children that don't have money for food or anything to help their themselves. that why we shouldn't take things for granted because others can only dream about being wealthy and the things they can do.

we all have different guilty pleasures according to our individuality and personality, but yet again there are some really common ones that everyone shares, one of my personal guilty pleasures is that still enjoy the company of a fuzzy stuffed animal. I currently still own all my animals that i have collected throughout my childhood.

I never know what a guilty pleasure was until I the other day in your class and I embrace my guilty pleasures. For example one of my guilty pleasures is playing video games like Call of Duty. I love the game and I love playing it but I do feel like I am wasting a lot of time that I could be using to study on playing this video game. Also I feel that I trash talk way to much when I am playing with other people although I find it really fun I feel guilt sometimes but I love it playing COD and trash talking. It is sort of like you and your books except im not learning I am just getting better at a video game which does not help me be successful in life at all.

I was thinking about guilty pleasures after writing about them in class, and I have over 8, I realized that I'm a big fan observing random people's singing abilities, who cares about random people's singing right? well I'm not really sure why but it seems to entertain me. I don't like any of those musical talent shows on tv though, that's just annoying.
I also like books on the supernatural, and I hate romances but I inter-species romances, for me, are acceptable, I did read twilight series and though I felt like I was reading first grade level books, they were pretty entertaining and I could somewhat relate to a character in the book, I read them all in a day.

Guilty pleasures. Everybody has them, only few are willing to admit them. Whether its snacking on a sweet treat (like you) or watching a silly spoof on a movie, guilty pleasures are easily susceptible and extremely embarrassing. One of my personal guilty pleasures would have to be midnight snacking in the kitchen. Although my parents are against the idea, I am quite fond of visiting the pantry late at night to snack on treats such as ice cream and chips. I have fully recognized my guilty pleasures, and the extent of them, as should everyone. They are nothing to be embarrassed about being that everyone has their own secret pleasures such as these.
