A Call To Action

For those of you who did not catch Obama's speech last night, take about five minutes to view this section on education. Do you feel that every American should strive for a college education?

Well, finally I could of watched at least five minutes of the president's speech without a translator in the background. Haha. Learning that our president is creating a new educational system, reinforming our knowledge that we are the future. Just to hear, how the US has the highest high school/college dropouts in the world makes me feel ashamed. We have to decrease the dropouts and increase graduates.

I do believe every American should strive for a college education. What do they do when they drop out of high school? They just sit around, work at McDonalds, or do drugs. The people who don't go to college are just a economical drain on society. They are living in a country and not using to the their full potential.

Well is it not a scary statistic that only 56% of American citizens graduate high school? What about the fact that only 44% get an AA degree and that 12% of that get a major? And out of that 12% only 4% has a doctorate. If this doesn't scare you then I don't know what will. I agree with not only Obama but almost every teacher out there that we should strive for a college education. Dropping out was never an option for me and although I know of better people that are better off getting a GED still after getting that GED they should still strive for at least one year of education after wards. Supposedly someone with a college education gets at least one million dollars more a year if they have a steady job than someone with just a high school degree. Education is the basis of all human technology, creation, science, and deep thinking. In order to better ourselves as a nation we must better ourselves as a person.

Yes, I believe that every American should indeed strive for an education. I believe everyone should have graduated high school and have at least an associates degree. A better education will improve our country.

Obama had a great point as to bringing education. Education is very important in this nation at this point. We are in a devastating situation with the economy all because of education. Americans tend to not study as much as foreign students. They take everything for granted and in the end they are the ones missing out. In our country we have many foreign students coming to study. They strive and are disciplined to work, something they americans don't have. More than half of students drop out of high school and only 56% graduate high school. Obama has great ideas and i hope they come through.

Yes every American should strive for a college education. Unlike any other country we have an opportunity to go to college. Some countries can't give scholarships to students and our country has scholarships for everything but we don't take advantage of these benefits. If we don't take advantage of these benefits our country is going to get worst.

I believe it to be absolutely essential that Americans dedicate themselves to obtaining a higher education. Part of the reason for this economic recession is the fact that we are losing high education jobs overseas. This cannot be accepted anymore. We must once again strive to be the most advanced country in the world and this starts by equipping our workers with a better education.

YES MOST DEFINTLY. Education is the one thing that I believe is the most important thing in a persons life. No matter what age you are in, you always tend learn something new ,because our mind is like a spounge and it should suck in all the iinforamtion we can possably get. People that walk around thinking they know everyting, are the most ignorant people in this earth. Every child in the United Stats should be ale to have an education.Day by day everything becomes harder and harder and believe from what I can see it wont get any easier. We are facing an extreamly bad economic situation right now, we need our society to be educated so we can strive for the better. We are the future and we need to keep our country safe.

Like we talked about in class we have a high percentage of dropouts. I think everyone should graduate high school and go to college. Most people can't get very good jobs by just graduating high school. Everyone should try to go to college. It could change many things.

I don't think the college is fo everyone. Some people do good in life without going to college. People make fair amount of money with no college degree. The other people go to college because college give you far more information about anything than just to find it yourself.

I don't think everyone has to strive for a college education. Some people may be extremely talented in something other than academics and can make money right out of high school and be set for life. Just like acting, singing and drafted to play in the major league right out of high school for sports. It just depends on the circumstance on the person, but even for me I would still go to college just in case your carrier downfalls on you. You always need a backup.

Yes, I do think every American should work hard to receive the best college education they possibly can. Times are changing and if they don't change with it they will be left behind and not have a very good chance at succeeding in life. Obama has a good plan hopefully he can make it happen.

YES! Because it is a fact that the majority of people coming out of college are more successful. I am going to college. No matter what but I have to take the hard way. That’s trough football. I work my ass off just to get an education cause I messed up my freshmen year. Also college from what I hear is amazing.=]

I honestly believe that a GED or Post Secondary education wouldn’t hurt anyone actually its pretty cool to have a parent go to college trying to further advance their knowledge and become more open-minded and understand the point of things us teenagers go trough. it wouldn’t hurt them and president Obama is correct about that and they should be able to go to school at least for one year or semester something to get them better jobs and better pay which is what we need now.

I believe that every student should strive to do more than just graduate from high school, they should try to find a career that they would enjoy.

Im actually excited about a president. I love how Obama speaks and actually talks to the people. I think its a great idea that he is stressing on education. The Education in America is not great at all. Expecially in Florida. Im a little ashemed to say i go to school in Florida. while there are some teachers, like yourself, that actually teach us alot of other teachers really dont. its very agrevating.

I feel that everyone should strive for a college education so they can be properly educated and help their country out by being more than just a plumber. I think that everyone should strive to get a college education so America can once more be on top for technology and so we can once more have the most educated population. But I think that you should also do it for yourself because there is so much knowledge in this world to learn, and I think that if more people are educated that it will make a better nation. If people also strived for a college education then a lot less people would be poor and a lot more jobs could be offered to millions of people because they would be more qualified. So I do believe that Americans should strive for a college education, to improve themselves as individuals and to improve their nation.

This is terrible!!! Of course every citizen should strive for education! All of our jobs are being exported to china and India right now just because corporations can pay someone there less money for having same education that anyone in our country can strive to get. Why do people here ask for more money? because not that many people here get an extended education. If this doesn't change, i am very sad to say that our country will be suffering a very high unemployment rate. The problem here is that people have it too good. Every one can basically live with a minimum wage to pay for all the basic necessities and not have to worry about poverty or hunger. People here are not motivated for competition. And when there's no competition form a country in a competitive free market, that country does not advance with the globalized economy.Someone shouldn't wait for the president to tell them this, They should know what is right, not be lazy, and make a change in society starting form themselves.

Wow, Obama isnt just good at talking, he is also good at taking action. 7 million people have been given the opportunity to get an education because of Obama, and hopefully many more to go. What sets Obama apart from some of our past presidents is that he makes goals, and hopefully those goals will be met. It is interesting that Obama did not just forget the rest of the people and focus on the young who are easier to guide to success because of their age, he wants everyone to get a better education.

I think even without the presidents statement people should strive for a college education. The way I figure it is, we only have one life to live and we should do as much with that life that is humanly possible. There is no re-does in life. If you didn’t have an accomplished life and you didn’t absorb all the information you ever wanted or needed, you will have to die knowing that. Not only does your education affect you and your future, but it also affects your countries future as well. Like Obama was saying in the conference on how many people never received a college education. This fact is a huge reason why our economy is crumbling in our hands. If people would of took the time to get an education, problems like these could have been solved earlier or of not occurred what so ever. Just like you need a pencil to write, you need knowledge and an education to fix a nation.

The United States of America is considered the most powerful nation in the world. Inventions, medicines, technology etc are discovered here each and every day. That is thanks to educated people. The fact that we are pretty low on the scale of education is our country is not a good feeling. How can the most powerful country is the world continue to maintain that role is it's future citizens are not educated.
I agree with Obama that every student should finish high school and have some type of further education. WE ARE THE FUTURE and the only way we can understand what's coming ahead and improve these issues is if we are educated. Countries with high education systems are moving up on the scale and will one day over power us if we do not do something about furthering education now!
