I love taking pictures. I am not the "carry my camera around at all times" kind of crazy photographer but while on vacations or during special events, taking pictures is important to me.

Pictures help me remember. It is not that I cannot remember events and places without pictures, but sometimes the details elude me. Or perhaps, sometimes the details become muddled and pictures help those details become a bit more clear.

Every once in a while I sit down and take a look at my scrapbooks and reflect on times past. These are always pleasant times even if the picture is not of a pleasant experience. For example, recently I was flipping through some pictures of the destruction after hurricane Wilma - an unpleasant event. As I went through the pictures I remembered what we endured and somehow, now, looking back at the experience, I realize it was not bad at all. What was once an unpleasant event has become just something that happens during the course of my life.

So, if you choose to comment on this post, I ask that you share a picture that you look back on and learn from. Explain the picture and what you learned. Share how an image can change your perspective on life.

Just to mention before I start replying to your last paragraph, I am 'one of those crazy 'carry my camera with me at all times'' people. And I'm proud of it. :-)
But, since I do take an abundance of pictures (and no, not just of me and my friends), I am constantly looking back on memories and remembering exactly the emotions that were running through me at the time. I have at least 3 or 4 corkboards filled with photos all over the walls of my room.
There was a time though, when I had to 'modify' my pictures that were displayed. I didn't necessarily get rid of those photos; I just put them away... Out of sight out of mind?!
One picture that when I do look back at brings back a not so pleasant memory, is one of me and an old friend. She's wearing my cowboy hat and I'm holding a teddy bear and its in Cyan (blue & white setting). Her and I did absolutely everything together and my home was literally her home and we just had so much fun and had so much in common, until...
One day, I found out she had been spreading horrid rumors about me, and long story short... our friendship was non-existent two days later. I was so incredibly hurt and betrayed that it took me a while to understand that I had nothing to regret. I had been nothing but a good friend and nothing less than there for her. So, when I look at that photo and all the negative memories it entails, I can only think and hope that she's doing well and I know wouldn't be as strong without that experience.

This picture is from the Obama rally last October. Seeing who was to be the future president of the United States was one of the best experiences of my life. I learned a lot about what was going on in the world from what he and the other speakers said. Even though I will always remember that day, waiting in line for four hours to get in the Bank Atlantic Center, sitting all the way up in the nosebleed section, this picture will bring me back.

This post is so me. Like you said, I don't have a camera on me everywhere I go, but I love keeping little mementos of my life with me. One picture I always look at just to keep me grounded is a picture of my entire family and I before I left Cuba. Sometimes I take my family for granted and I don't realize how lucky I am to have them. Even if I haven't seen them for 9 years, at least they're alive and healthy. That's more than I can ask for. Oh and just letting you know, I'm a fellow scrapbooker :)

I love having memories. I save like all my messages and pictures because it makes looking back much easier. You reminisce and remember it all through things like that especially pictures.

This is a picture of one of my dogs, Rocky, when he was somewhat a puppy. I've had him since he was a baby and he's been a good and loyal dog, much better than his brother. Sometimes I forget what I have when he annoys the hell out of me every day, but i always there. He's getting all big and grown now, makes me wish they could stay that size forever and always be cute but my mom feels the same way about me. I guess parents wish they could have their child forever. I know there are probably other pictures I could have put up, but this is the first that came to mind and makes me appreciate as well.

Memories can be the best they can haunt you forever till you leave them at rest or you can keep them forever. The bad things get less bad and stupider as time goes by, but the happy and funny memories stay the same way always.

Mrs.Stoklosa, i truly love taking pictures too. Im not one of those people who take pictures of random things that look pretty or anything like that. Just wheneer im with friends or with my boyfriend or amily members, i think its really important to take pictures and put them in frames. It makes me happy to see people i care about around me. My favorite piture although, is a picture of my great grandparents who actually y great grandma recently passed. It is the most beautiful pcture i have ever seen.It is one of those i think 1930's or 1940's old pictures and it was right before their wedding. Their faces look absolutly perfectand mesmorizing. I loe it because it elps me remember how absolutly beautiful se was.

This is a picture of me freshman year with my friend Kim during gym class. I also scrapbook as a hobby and this is one of the pictures in one of them. Unfortunately, i don't keep up with my scrap book as often I'd like to. I do agree with you on the whole taking pictures for memories idea. It really is a great way to look back on past events and sort of relive the moments. It makes me sad sometimes looking back on my old life, but I like to think im lucky enough to at least have the memories forever.

This is a picture that my friends and I took the on Halloween. I fell that it represents the differences that we all have but, it also shows how we can come together and agree on something. We all got dressed up as football players in honor of the schools homecoming game. The crowns don't really have an explanation, they just seemed to pull the outfits together.
I wish i had a camera to record memories myself. Fortunately I have many friends that capture our moments together.

This picture was taken by my dad on our Africa trip, the owl was turning its head when my dad took this.
From this image I learned how detailed and fragile life can be, also from my trip I learned how some cultures are considered ancient because of their technological disadvantange yet they seem to know more about living their life to the fullest and living out of the box than we do. When you are stuck in a desert without any communication with society and the only human beings around you dont have technology then you truly learn to appreciate how perfect and detailed life and nature can be.
This image changed my perspective in life since I now take my time to notice how delicate life is and I appreciate the gift of nature.

I rarely ever take pictures. If someone's taking pictures its my parents. I think taking pictures can be annoying. However, pictures are memories. They remind you of what might have been forgotten. The picture that I put in is of me and my brothers. This picture is very important to me because both my brothers will be away at college next year and I really am going to miss them. I have this picture hanging on my wall and I look at it when I am sad or lonely and I throw darts at it when my brothers are annoying me. Family pictures are the most important to me. I don't take these pictures for granted because I don't have very many of them.

I don't take many pictures, but those that I do are of me and my friends. I never have time to hang out or be with my friends besides at school and those pictures keep me in a false hope, I guess you could say, that I belong in a tight circle of friends. However in reality, my friends are more quantity-vs.-quality. Now I am starting to try to change all that. Wish me luck!

I hate pictures. One picture that I look back on are my baby brother. hes 3 years old and his name is Chris. Before he was born everything was perfect but when he came into our lives he made our lives a dream and I couldn't ask for a better little brother. I always have a picture of him on my phone so if I'm ever feeling a little down from something I look at his picture and no matter what he makes me smile through the ups and downs.

I don't have a picture to upload on my computer. However, I do have several pictures of my brother and I on Christmas, and other several occasions. It is kinda sad looking at them cause my house is empty now that he moved to college last year. When he comes down to visit, we always hang out with my friends and just chill until he has to go back up.

But everytime I look at that picture I keep thinking about I wish i got to know them better. Because now my uncle and the older cousin Alberto are looking down on me. That pic a lot of times remind me of some times i hanged out with my uncle.

Unfortunately for me I lost all my photos on the computer because Circuit City lost them and the rest of my files on the computer. But I do value some photos and those particular ones mean a lot to me. One photo is of me, my cousin, and my grandmother. It was taken a year ago this time when we went to Orlando. We were at Disney World. What I like about it the most is that my grandmother was actually smiling int he photo because she was camera-shy most of the time. Its also special to me because I think about how fast the past year as gone by and all the good memories I had with her before she passed away.

I don't always carry a camera next to me, but when I can and I'm bored I go on a photography spree. I just hang out with a bunch of friends and I'll have my camera with me and take pictures of my friend skateboarding and make cool fish eye effects with my fish eye.I would think of myself more of a photographer than a skater because I love to take skateboarding pictures.

It was probably a good Idea that you decided to take pictures because not only will you spend time in the future looking at them, but it is important that a person does not forget their past. One of my biggest mistakes is not retaining some of the objects and memory's that make me me.

My picture is of my dog from Australia, Fergie. We named him after an All Black (New Zealand rugby team), Fergie McCormick, who my dad used to know. I got him when I was 9, but when I moved to Florida, I had to give him away. I remember the day I gave him away so well, it was a terribly cold day, just a week before we were leaving. I woke up and my parents told me that at least six completely random people were coming to see my dog, the first people that came to see him fell in love with him and he was gone within an hour. It was terrible, my brother was crying, his two best friends were crying, my mom was crying, even my dad who never really showed any affection for Fergie was crying. I was heartbroken and I felt like a part of me was missing. Fergie was like my best friend, he was so protective of me, one time my brother was hitting me, so Fergie jumped up and bit my brother. After giving Fergie away I learned to always think of good memories when I am feeling down and also to make the most out of everything.

I love taking pictures too. Especially on vacations and putting them together in scrapbooks and I always go through my pictures in fact I a collage of pictures on the booard next to my mirror and I always look at them. But theres this one picture that I took of my parents when we went on a cruise to Mexico and everytime I look at it I laugh hysterically, because my mom is wearing a V top and my mom is well endowed and my dad opened his eyes wide and made a funny face and was looking down her top. It was funny cause I remember that moment perfectly I was laughing and I showed my mom and she was like "OH MY GOD BILLY" and she started smacking his arm and was laughing and then told him to take another and to smile. That was a good time and I won't forget it because of that picture.

Unlike you, I am one of those 'carry my camera with me at all times' people. I always have two or three cameras on me. For the holidays, my parents bought me a fisheye camera and my best friend bough me another "play" film camera. I love throwing them in my bag and documenting all of the adventures my friends and I go on. Although I take tons and tons of pictures, my favorite pictures will always be the ones that my friends and I take on IPhoto. Although they are always cheesy with weird colors and distorted faces, everyone always looks so happy! They are so much fun to look at, laugh at, and remember the good times that came along with them.

"A picture is worth a thousand words." Yes, that is true. Many pictures tell a story. Last week my friend had taken many pictures of our car experiences. These pictures were memorable to me because it made me remember how much fun i had that night with my friends. They bring back funny times in the car with just a click of a button. Pictures mean a lot to me, because i like keeping good memories i had in my mind. One day i can just take a peek at an old photo and i can just feel the moment and the presence of when i was there. Pictures bring back great stories.

This picture was taken in Argentina this year. I'd like to explain the story in full but I think it's a subject better left unexplored, but it is a very important chapter in my life and i like those memories.

The story begins 5 years ago in the quaint (read totally crazy) city of Rio de Janeiro. An interesting (and quite honestly really, really awesome) boy is about to embark on an epic journey to an unknown land. Okay thats a lie that little boy had lived in that land before, and wasn't particularly found of it, or actually cared about anything back then (after all, he was known as the Carioca marginal).

At this point in time he had not seen his paternal family in almost 3 years already. When he embarked on this journey, he did not know (or care, at the time) what to expect. After many years toiling (read: doing absolutely nothing for his self improvement), and wishing to go back to the mother land, and visit the family he has not seen for 8 years. And so it goes...

Ok but seriously:

I like this picture so much because my shirt is absolutely amazing in it (and so's my hair really), and because it brings great memories. I had not seen my family in a very long time. I was very thrilled and happy to see my family again, and I'm glad most of them are fine the way they are, even though some are not doing so great and that leaves me sorry for them. I did many things and met many new people. I went on boating trips, I drove A LOT around, managed to get off the country murder-free (surprisingly hard over there), and also did many other incriminating things I'll pledge the fifth on.

Pictures like this have ultimately changed my life in many ways, and how i look at life. A while ago i used to always take what i had for granted, and i thought that i was just like everyone else in the world. But now that i thought about it, im extremely lucky. Especially compared to the people living in such extreme poverty like in many parts of africa and countries such as those.

Well these days anyone with money and the ability to get one of those fancy nikons believes themselves to be photographers. Personally I love looking at a picture and going through that flashback moment that feels like your experiencing that moment all over again. These are two pretty old pictures of when I hung out with a lot of people. The first was back in the 9th grade. It's me, my friend Daniel Maiman, my friend Kurt Bauer, and my other friend Gianni Vinditti.
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q129/GIANlikesNEON/DSC02188.jpg

Me and that specific group of friends went through something during 10th grade and for a long time I was alone and without friends. The only person that stayed as my friend was actually Daniel. So later on me and Daniel met these guys and we started a band and bonded and I had a "mob" again.
Obviously I'm being carried, Chester Von-Sinner is the guy with the dirty blonde fluffy hair, the guy that looks scared is Luc Charles, Kerry is the one with the big smile, and Daniel is holding on to my legs.

Looking at these pictures brings me true happiness because I remember a moment where nothing really mattered, we were just having fun.

I am not the type of person that likes taking pictures, especially of myself. I don't know why, and I never carry a camera around and barely use my camera phone. But one picture that brings back a lot of memories is one of me standing by the Sydney bridge in Australia during a summer trip. It reminds me of my travel to another side of the world that not many people visit, and it gives me some serious bragging rights. Plus I had the time of my life there which i will never forget. The picture just makes it clearer.

Images can impact anybody's life in an amalgam of ways. It could be either creatively, negatively, positively, or even imaginatively. I've always been into taking pictures as well, but never really actually gotten up to get a camera, so I draw what I see instead. Which is pretty cool, and, I think, better.

You get a better appreciation of the world around you, and makes you focus more on your surroundings. Taking pictures is just as good, in the sense that you can alter the image with the colors and Photoshop and all that good stuff. :)

Thats a really cool hobby and you should bring in your srapbook sometime. I love intereting pictures of really funny signs and things like that and i think its really cool how you take so many pictures. Its cool how you can look back on them and laugh even if it was a bad experience. Pictures really do capture little details, like when people take pictures and dont realize thaqt i jumped in and when they look at it they see me. =]

A picture i often look back on that makes me really happy is a picture of me and my two best friends that we took 3 years ago. Its a picture of a really fun holloween night and all you can see is the three of us, its a really touching picutre (no homo). Looking back on that picture i learn that you have to cherish what you have and not always take what you have for granted because one of my close friends moved away two years ago and i really do miss him a lot. A picture can change your outlook on life because i know that if someone took a picture of god it would influence millions of people in many different ways.

Haha I'm also the person "who has their camera on them 24/7" especially when I have two little siblings that just turned 2 every little thing they do is just so picture worthy haha. Also in every vacation we go on I have to take a picture in every beautiful "kodak spot" it's just a must!
