I had planned to write about cyber warfare this week (I had read an interesting article about the subject last week and vowed to share it with all of you), but, I feel like approaching a less formal subject that is both more fun and near and dear to my heart - Halloween!
Halloween ranks among my top three favorite holidays and occurs during one of my favorite times of the year. Although we do not get much of a fall in South Florida, I try to invoke the fall spirit in my own household by baking treats filled with pumpkin and dinners with side dishes made from fall squashes. Anytime I see a leaf that has turned red, yellow, or orange, I savor the sight as some small indication that fall does indeed occur, albeit in tiny ways.
Fall also brings celebrations like Halloween and Thanksgiving. I have always been a fan of Halloween. When I was a teeny Tina (yes, I do have a first name) I reveled in the one night when I could dress up as something else and travel around the neighborhood collecting candy. Halloween was big in my neighborhood. People would decorate their front lawns with scarecrows, tombs, and other installations inspiring fear. I will never forget the one Halloween when I walked up to a front door only to be scared out of my wits by a man, sitting motionless and dressed as a scarecrow, who popped up to scare our group. I was quite young and I think I shed a couple of tears but quickly regained my composure and continued on our Halloween trek.
I am also a fan of the macabre - and Halloween is all about the macabre. Blacks and purples and skulls and coffins are celebrated during Halloween. The writings of Edgar Allen Poe grace tv programs, and it is not uncommon to see someone traveling around town dressed as Dracula or Frankenstein. Although some may find the delving into the more morbid side of life as less than enjoyable, I can't wait to decorate my home with skulls and crossbones.
Holidays have a way of bringing an element of fun to all of our lives. They allow us to escape - if only for a day - from the realities of work and stress. They also allow us to appreciate aspects of life that may go unnoticed most days of the year.
What is your favorite holiday? What about this holiday makes you happy?

Dressing up and collecting tons of candy is fun! But, my favorite holiday would have to be Christmas. Every year I look forward to Christmas for numerous reasons.
I love cold weather! When it even only gets a slight bit colder i get excited. I jut feel that I even wake up in a better mood when it is cold outside.
Seeing houses decorated and light up makes me grin from ear to ear. To see how everyone does their house differently is always fun. Then there is always one or two houses that go all out and their house eluminates with brightness. Sometimes they even have the lights flashing to the beat of a Christmas carol.
Christmas is a very family orianted holiday. I love spending time with my family. Sometimes I even get to see family members that I havn't seen in a while. Everything about Christmas makes me overjoyed.
Althought Halloween is a great fun holiday, my favorite is Christmas. It is not my favorite just because of the presents, although they are not a bad addition. My favorite part is waking up on Christmas morning and running to my brothers room to share what we both got in our stockings. I love waking my parents up Christmas morning to open presents from "Santa." Yes, my parents do still write from Santa. When I was little there was always neat traditions like putting out reindeer dust (oatmeal and sparkles) or putting out milk and cookies. I also love seeing the faces of the people that I give presents too. I think that Christmas was always, and will always be an exciting holiday.
My favorite holiday is definitely Christmas. I don’t like Christmas because of gifts, I like it because this holiday gives my family the opportunity to be together. Christmas is held at my house and my family, that live in Florida, are invited over and we spend the day together.
Decorating and baking is another reason why I like this holiday. My house is decked out in holiday decor. We decorate my house from the outside of my lawn to the individual rooms. Decorating takes forever for my family to do. After a long day for decorating, we always bake something! We make Santa cookies, banana bread, pies, and ginger bread houses.
As well as the family connection this holiday brings the weather is nicer and it’s during winter break!
I was raised in a household that possessed two different religions, Judaism and Catholicism. My mom and dad are both strong holders of their religions and chose not to give up their beliefs. They allowed their kids to believe what they wish to believe in an unbiased manner. Because of this fact I celebrate multiple holidays and can't just focus on a specific favorite. I tend to enjoy the Winter Holidays the most because, in a way, I get the best of both worlds. This is a time where I can just get together with my family and enjoy the times we share.
My favorite holiday is Christmas. I just love the smell of the tree and warm freshly baked cookies. oh! I almost forgot the presents, just waking up in the morning to see presents under the tree and getting to open them is so much fun. Also to be with your family. Halloween is my second favorite because We are able to go out with your friends dressed up crazy and get free candy. Another thing is Halloween horror night in Universal Studios. Its so much fun getting super scared, and knowing its not real.
I love all the different times of the year when the holidays come around. But there is one holiday that I have always loved most. That holiday is Christmas. My favorite Christmas memories started back in Canada, where I was born. There just seems to be so much more of a Christmas spirit back home. As a younger kid, I always got so excited when the snowfall would come, always beginning right around Christmas time. I never smiled more but to when I would wake up in the morning, look out the window, and see the graciousness and tranquility of the snow falling from the ski, laying out that perfect white blanket all across the land. For almost the entire Christmas break, I would spend my time building snow men and snow forts, and getting in snowball fights with friends. This was always a great way to spend my day and it was something that I could only really cherish at this certain time of the year.
The best part about Christmas time was the sledding and skiing. I remember, my best friend Harrison and I, going out in the day time to find the biggest and steepest hill we could. Once finding that perfect hill, we would put together some snow and build a jump out of it, at the bottom of the hill. Grabbing our sleds, we would run up the hill and race down it at the same time to see who could go flying off the jump first. I think the best thing about this was that even if we went flying off our sleds, through the air, it really didn't matter, because either way, we were still going to land in a soft cushion of snow, sled or no sled. Now after a day of being out side in the cold, it was always so comforting to snuggle up by the fire with the rest of my family, drinking hot cocoa, and discussing our day. Lastly, the excitement of waking up on Christmas morning and rushing down the stairs, to see all the amazing gifts that good old Saint Nicholas had brought my family and I. Christmas, by far is my favorite holiday, and even though some of those memories are just in the past, I will never lose that Christmas spirit that I have and will always love!
My favorite holiday would have to be Thanksgiving. In South America, we never celebrated this holiday, so I found this very interesting, which added more appeal to this holiday from me. When we first arrived in the United States I was 11 years old, we had moved to Minnesota and we didn't know a single soul or speak a word of English for that matter. So when we arrived here, it was traumatizing, we mostly spent our time indoors, doing nothing. Then Thanksgiving came around and a couple of neighbors invited us over for dinner that day, we gladly accepted to be able to meet some new people. When we went to their home, we were greeted by a crowd of joyful people, all bonding together for this holiday. As a result of this day, I was able to make a lot of new friends and my parents were able to meet some Spanish speaking people, allowing them to become more comfortable in this environment. This holiday makes me happy, because it reminds me of the hard time we were going through and how with the help of friends we were able to overcome it. To this day, thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays in which I am glad to be with my family and friends to feast.
Halloween's my favorite holiday, I'm a mortal victim every year. I love gore so and blood and scary things so much, macabre things are awesome, I don't get why people don't enjoy them, when I lived in Boston, trick or treating was awesome because it was nice and cold during that time/I lived in Swapscott which wasn't too close to the city the the night was completely lightless, since the houses were so remote and antiquated it was a pretty cool scene. My dad got re-married though and now is super busy so we don't decorate the house nor does he dress up with me.
Anyway, I'm obsessed with candy, delicious sour gummies, and lemon heads are my utter weakness.
Scary kids, costumes, and candy what can get better than that. I'm really looking forward to Halloween even though it's never as enjoyable as I imagine it to be.
My favorite holiday is the Feast of the Saint Fermin in Spain celebrated in the town of Pamplona. It is one of my favorites because I have always found it interseting to see people run from the bulls. Watching hundreds of these people run down the very narrrow steets of Spain being chased by bulls shows a side of fearless from people that is rarely seen.
If I were to choose a favorite holiday, it'll probably be Thanksgiving. Why would this be my favorite one? Because I love to eat. I must say this is the only holiday that feeds me pretty well. My family are fanatics of the holiday and always host a massive dinner for their friends and off course, the family. I get to indulge in exotic foods like maple-glazed pork, thick and creamy mashed potatoes, and the most bizarre salad creations. I eat so much that I lay idle on my chair, facing the dinner table, waiting for all the vast amounts of food to digest. But, I wouldn't trade that feeling for the world. I love Thanksgiving.
More than just a holiday, my favorite day of the year is Thanksgiving; not only for the happy and gay thought of giving and receiving, but the fact that my family is united, all together, rejoicing as overwhelmed by the amount of food. Nothing pleases me more than seeing my family members satisfied and delighted by the shear company of many others.
I fear to say this, but my least favorite holiday is 4 of July simply because of the weather in S. FL where I have spent this holiday. I understand that in other parts of the country the weather is different. But I now associate 4th of July with a sticky, sweaty, mosquito-biting atmosphere which I don't personally enjoy.
It's interesting that this is your favorite holiday and I like how you're going to decorate your house! I think it's funny when you referred to yourself as "teeny Tina." I have a few favorite holidays, but the main ones are Halloween, Christmas, and Thanksgiving. Halloween is amazing because I get to dress up and go out with my friends. I've gone trick or treating every year, but it's not as fun anymore because people don't stay out as late. The feeling that I have when I wake up on Christmas is wonderful. I become very anxious the night before and I end up not being able to sleep. Thanksgiving is the time where I get to eat all the food that I want and i see my family that I don't see as much as I wish that I could.
I love Halloween also and I love the fun that is experienced with your friends. I used to enjoy dressing up like my favorite cartoon or action hero and walk around with my friends collecting candy to end up with a big bag of candy which would last me months. I also loved getting scared by neighbors and the older kids which made me scream and got my adrenaline pumping. Halloween is still fun for me even though I do not dress up for I still hang out with my friends and do some action filled events.
I also love Halloween. It just has that kind of comforting spirit to do whatever you can in order to frighten your friends or kids that come up to the door for candy. Over the years my family has always tried to be the scariest and most decorated house on the block. In past years we have come up with ideas like stuffing jeans and a plaid shirt with news paper and placing a mask covering a skull to make it seem like it's a real person. We place him in a lawn chair with the candy in his lap observing all the kids slowly creep up to him like he was real and stand there to ask it for candy. This was priceless!
Europe which is considered probably the most fascinating, unique and admirable continent in our beloved world, is more than filled with the most savory, and scrumptious foods known to man kind.
This elegant, and exclusive cuisine is based on nothing but the great ancient greece and rome giving it the perfect magnitude of variety and originality. This is an opportunity to celebrate both the birth of our lord and savior, and it also allows us to have an enjoyable and bonding time with our families.
Although Halloween is not celebrated in my religion, I do participate and it is great. The treats, costumes, and mischief are just great parts of this SPOOOKY day. I could go on for hours about the times I came home with a bellyache and swore I'd never go trick-or-treating again. But, the mysterious draw towards Tootsie Rolls and King Sized Snickers was always too strong for my little mind.
Chanukah is my favorite holiday. Latkes, dreidel, gelt, family, and PRESENTS!!! What else could a little Jew want in a holiday? Maybe brisket and apples and honey but that would just be too greedy.
I absolutely love Fall! One cool Halloween night, I was going door to door snatching up all kinds of sweets with my best friend, Mitchell. We got to this one spooky house and no one answered the door. As we were about to turn around to gallop to the next house, a man appeared out of, what seemed like thin air and scared the socks off our feet!
Halloween, its coming up and it is most defiantly high up in my list of favorite holidays. You’re never too old to dress up, and this activity is very much enjoyed in my house. But most of all is the sweets that are wonderful, and though I hate to admit last year I didn’t just go trick or treating with my little sister because I had to. I also enjoy the annual viewing of the movie “The Nightmare Before Christmas” witch all the family watches together.
I see why you like Halloween so much, as I do as well. But by far, my favorite holiday is Colombus Day, which occurs on October 21st. This, to many people, is forgotten about or merely thought upon for a slight second, but not for me. I love it. My main reason is because it is a holiday that isn’t celebrated highly, and since I always find a reason to jubilate, I am more content than everybody. This brightens up my day, and also the fact that it’s my father’s birthday!
Out of all the holidays of the year, Christmas has to be my all-time favorite. Although the weather down in south Florida does not get too low, my family and I visit New Jersey for the winter holidays where the temperatures tend to drop. Occasionally, we even visit New York, where Rockafeller Center hosts the largest Christmas tree in all of the state. Boasting colorful lights and decorative ornaments, this tree is the most beautiful thing standing in New York City during winter. The atmosphere presented in New York, and Christmas is just so pleasurable, making it my preferred holiday. There is just something so special about gathering with my family during Christmas time and exchanging gifts and eating delicious food. Christmas definitely has to be my favorite holiday, and I know I share the same opinion as many others.
I am a very festive person, therefore I love all the holidays, because they all give me a reason to celebrate. Whether it is Halloween, Thanksgiving or even Cinco de Mayo, I love celebrating them all. Although, there is one holiday I like the best and this would be Christmas. I like Christmas for numerous reasons. I love spending time with my family and getting to see family members I haven't seen on a long time. I also love the feeling I get opening my christmas presents and watching the other people open their own. I am getting kind of old for presents, so each year I get less presents, but I still get the joy of seeing how my little sister's face fills with joy when she opens the presents that "Santa Claus" brought her. Another reason I love this holiday, is because we always throw a big party where the whole family gets together and we talk, laugh and dance. I also look forward to this holiday, because it's so close to the end of the year that I get the anxiety of starting a new year, with a "fresh start."
